Numbers and letters. This is what the marking of cartridges looks like for many PMU masters, and for beginners this is a whole quest. I regularly see questions on this topic on the masters’ forums, which means that this information was not given in the basic training. Our school provides answers to all questions. We analyze what is hidden behind the abbreviation and marking of cartridges for Tattoos and Permanent makeup.

Numbers
01/30
The first number is the number of needles in the bundle. There may be 3, 5, 7 and so on.
In PMU, the most popular configuration is 1 (one), followed by 3 (three). A larger number of needles in a bundle is usually used by Tattoo artists;
The second number is the diameter or thickness of the needle. They can also be different: 18, 20, 25, 27, 30, 33, 35. To make it more clear, 20 – the diameter of the needle is 0.2 mm; 25 – 0.25 mm and so on.
In Permanent Makeup, the most popular diameters are: 0.25; 0.3; 0.35mm.
The first two letters are the type of needle configuration

RL – Round Liner: when the number of needles is more than 1, the needles converge into a bundle at the tip of the needle. Also this type of configuration is called "liner". This configuration is used by tattoo artists when contouring a tattoo sketch;
RS – Round Shader ("shader"): in this configuration, the needles in the spike are divorced from each other, thus forming a configuration for spraying and shading;
CM – Curved Magnum: these are flat soldered needles, they have different lengths, thus creating a rounded shape. In Permanent Makeup they are used extremely rarely;
SEM (Soft Edge Magnum) and RM (Round Magnum) are also varieties of Magnum soldering. The configuration has a softened rounded shape. In PMU, this configuration is increasingly used to work on the lips.
Subsequent letters are the sharpening length (taper)

ST – Short Taper (1.5 mm): short "bullet" sharpening;
MT – Medium Taper (3.5 mm): medium sharpening;
LT – Long Taper (7 mm): long sharpening;
SLT – Super Long Taper (8.5 mm): super long sharpening;
HT – Half Long Taper (5.5 mm): the golden mean between MT and LT.
Needle polishing type
Smooth – universal.
Textured – with micro grooves (RLMT-T).
What needle to work with? This is a matter of technique and habit for every master. We all have different speeds, different machines.
Moreover. On different skin, it is recommended to work with different needle sharpening. In my practice, the L (Long) sharpening is the most popular. This is the hardest, sharpest needle. Yes, it is necessary to feel the skin well in order not to go deeper. However, it is the needle that can do the job filigree.
